Site Design

ZORB New Zealand has designed and assisted in the set-up and operations of a number of sites world-wide and continues to operate our busy and successful site in Rotorua, New Zealand since we invented this activity in the mid-1990s.

Our headquarters and factory are located on-site at ZORB ROTORUA where we construct ZORB balls and continue to innovate and develop the experience.

We do not run a franchise system, instead we work with you to get the best possible ZORB business up and running safely and efficiently from day one.

This involves discussions around what you want to achieve and planning to design the site layout, equipment and operations.

Much can be done remotely, but we can also visit your location to assist with site design, construction and training, and invite you to our flagship site in New Zealand for training and operational planning.

Set Up Costs

Your set-up costs, including our services and equipment, depend on the scale of your site and the existing facilities already in place.

Some developments can be staged over a period of years such as:

  • Extra tracks
  • Automated ZORB ball return system
  • Expanded customer facilities
  • Expanded operating hours

ZORB™ Balls

We manufacture our ZORB balls in New Zealand and ship them out to our partner sites.

We ONLY sell ZORB balls to our partners who operate under our specific code of safe operating practice.

The ZORB balls we make here in NZ are designed for safety and to last a long time in a commercial
environment, and cost around NZ$15,000 each.

Note that there are balls on the market for sale for much less than, however they are very poor quality and are missing critical safety features that mean they are not safe to use for rolling downhill or in a commercial environment.

The best way to look at ball cost is to understand that the cost of replacement of our ZORB balls should work out at around NZ$1.50 per customer – so you should get over 10,000 customer rides
before needing to replace a ZORB ball.

Note that the length of time the balls last for is dependent on many factors.

Operations & Training

Completing and implementing a Safe Operating Plan is critical.

We work with you to write a comprehensive Safe Operating Plan (SOP) including training, checklists, hazard management and certification – all designed to meet the standards of the Code of Practice for Downhill Ball-rolling.

These documents provide assurance to insurance companies and regulators that you are running a site to the highest possible safety standard.

Training can be provided by our representatives on your site, or by invitation to one or two of your crew to visit and train at ZORB Rotorua

Next Steps

  • Have a look at our site assessment checklist to see what makes a good potential ZORB site
  • Send us photos, maps, video, Google Earth co-ordinates of any locations you are looking at for a free initial site feedback. We are not interested in setting anyone up for failure, so if we think it won’t work, we’ll tell you!
  • If all parties agree the site is a good option, we will send through a contract for the supply of services and equipment to create the best possible ZORB site.

Note that our ZORB-IN-A-BOX product provides a kitset site which may be more suitable for smaller hills or temporary set-ups. See our ZORB-IN-A-BOX information for details.
